View each of the four pictures for your group and write a one-paragraph narrative describing the risky behavior displayed in the picture. Do not simply divide up the pictures. You need to collaborate. This means, discuss and formulate your narrative together. Follow the "See, Think, Wonder" format modeled in class. Post each of your narratives here, labeling your post with "Group 3, and your class period, and each member's last name". If you fail to do this, your group will not get credit.

Group 3 Period 4A – Cendejas, Davis, Verveckken, Pedroza, Bossler - There's a woman who appears to be asleep on her laptop. Beside her is a white mug and an open book. The woman looks young, and it is possible she is a student. She is at a health risk because her head is resting so close to a device emitting radiation waves. She is also at risk of knocking over her mug and spilling whatever contents it may hold onto her laptop, electrocuting herself. The laptop is also at risk of overheating, starting a fire. At the very least she risks the incompletion of whatever she was working on.
ReplyDeleteGroup 3 Period 4A – Cendejas, Davis, Verveckken, Pedroza, Bossler – Skateboarding can be a great recreational activity, however it can also be dangerous. For example, there’s a young man skateboarding. The skateboard he’s using is old and beat up, leaving at risk of breaking. He also isn’t wearing a helmet or any other kind of protective gear. While performing his tricks, he is at risk of falling on the pavement and getting badly hurt due to lack of protection.
ReplyDeleteGroup 3 Period 4A – Cendejas, Davis, Verveckken, Pedroza, Bossler – Three people are skydiving, from what looks like a military plane, however the top of the door is hanging down low and each diver is at risk of hitting his or her head on it. Other than that, they are jumping at different times, creating a risk of formation disorganization, which could cause them to either become separated or crash into each other. Below them, a city is visible, which suggests some threat of any one of the divers to land on something dangerous.
ReplyDeleteGroup 3 Period 4A – Cendejas, Davis, Verveckken, Pedroza, Bossler – Any form of sun tanning puts you at risk of skin cancer, but none more than artificial tanning. Despite this obvious risk, there exist other risks involved with artificial tanning. For example, there is a woman who is in a tanning bed. She has the tanning bed open, when it should be closed. She also is not wearing eye protection which could damage her eyes. Even if she were to be using this tanning bed correctly, she is still at risk of contracting Melanoma or other types of skin cancer.

ReplyDeleteSkydivers; Four people are jumping out what appears to be a cargo plane in what looks like an act of skydiving. They appear to be jumping out over a cityscape. Is this a military exercise or is this a recreation? The danger of this is that their parachutes may not deploy correctly, or not at all. This danger raises the question of: ‘Do they have safety equipment, such as goggles and helmets, and do they have backup parachutes?’ There is also a danger of landing in traffic and getting hit, landing too hard therefore breaking their legs, and/or landing in an unreachable place and getting stuck.
Picture 1: In picture one there was a girl sleeping with her head rested on her laptop and a mug next her laptop. Next to the mug and computer was what appeared to be a large text book, papers scattered all around the table her laptop was on, and glasses in between her laptop and book. From the looks of the picture she may have been up late studying/procrastinating on school work. In the mug there could have been coffee to help her stay awake so she could proceed to work on her school work. All of this was unsafe for her because whatever liquid was in the mug could have spilled onto her computer and text book, and since she was sleeping she wasn't getting what she needed to get done, done which would have affected her grade. Our questions were: what time was it at night? Did she have a test coming up? Was she procrastinating the previous night?
Picture 2: We started off by seeing a skateboarder doing what looked like to be a trick. The skateboarder wasn't wearing any type of protection. The skateboarder appeared to look like a male and was wearing shorts, shirt, snapback hat, and shoes. His skateboard looked as if it was “well used” which lead us to think that he skateboarded a lot and due to the trick he was doing it looked like he was well versed in skateboarding. Considering that the skateboarder wasn't wearing any protective gear and was doing a stunt he could've messed up on his trick and landed on his back or head permanently injuring him for life. Some of our questions were: did he land the trick? Is he good at skateboarding? Has he ever been injured before while skateboarding? Does he ever wear protective gear?
Picture 4: There was what appeared to be a female in a tanning bed that was either finishing up her tanning session or starting it since the tanning bed was open. The woman was wearing protective goggles and a bikini. In the background there was another tanning bed which most likely meant she was in a tanning facility. Tanning in of itself has numerous health effects such as: skin cancer, premature aging, eye damage, and sunburn. Our group thought she did participate in tanning often. Our questions were: did she go to tanning salons often? How long was each of her tanning secessions? In the picture was she finishing or starting her tanning secession?
Group 3 2B: Watson, Kelly, Tull, Sullivan, Anderson, Fong, Bernstein. There is a girl sleeping on a laptop while she was working or studying in what looks like a roadside café, due to the cars in the background. The chancy behavior demonstrated is the possibility of spilling the beverage that is in the mug all over laptop on which she’s sleeping, and mess up the document or possibly electrocuting her. The careless behavior could potentially be detrimental to her health or grade in a class. Because the woman might be resting, it suggests that she hasn’t had much sleep. Her head lies upon stacks of, what looks like, open text books. The class or classes that she’s studying for can now perhaps be failed.
ReplyDeleteGroup 3 2B: Watson, Kelly, Tull, Sullivan, Anderson, Fong, Bernstein. A teenage looking boy is framed in midair in what looks like an attempt of performing a skateboard trick on a half pipe. He is grabbing his board as if he is going to pull it out from underneath himself, only to turn back and head down the cement bowl’s side. This character’s precarious actions suggest a potential crash or breaking of one or more of his bones. To add to the list of dangerous manners, this young adolescent does not look like there is a helmet occupying his head; instead, there is a duck billed cap which is unable to protect him if he were to have an accident.
Group 3 2B: Watson, Kelly, Tull, Sullivan, Anderson, Fong, Bernstein. Three unidentifiable human figures are launching themselves out of an opening of a plane. It seems as if the aircraft from which they’re jumping is of a military style though it could just as easily be a typical plane. The city bellow demonstrates a view of the looming height at which the plane is gliding. In general, it is rather a dicey idea to jump out of an airplane. The personage’s jumpsuits look as if there is a parachute or other skydiving equipment attached to them; these items could malfunction, ultimately leading to their deaths.
Group 3 2B: Watson, Kelly, Tull, Sullivan, Anderson, Fong, Bernstein. A mid- twenties looking woman in a scantily clad white bottom and top, is lying on her back in a cylindrical tanning bed. Light emanates from the glass encasement in which she seems to be preparing to close herself in to tan. This activity she demonstrates could be fatal in the long term when dealing with such possibilities as skin cancer. She also runs the risk of burning herself by staying in the bed for too long, implying that she loses track of time.
Group 3, 4B, Byrd, Wasden, Willis, Mundell, Lambeth, Macrae-Smith:
ReplyDeleteThe risky behavior being demonstrated in this picture is that a girl fell asleep on a laptop. Some risks of this are that she could have whatever is in the coffee cup spilled on her. Because there is probably a liquid in the mug, if it spilled on the laptop there is a possibility that it could electrocute her. She also has coffee pot behind her so depending on how much coffee she drank the amount of caffeine could be dangerous. If someone walked by and closed her book that her glasses are in there is also the possibility of broken glass. The fact that she is asleep on her computer could also mean that she is suffering from sleep deprivation which can also be dangerous.
The dangerous behavior being demonstrated in this picture is that a person is skateboarding in a skate park. Some risks of this behavior is that there appears to be nobody else in this picture, so if they fall there would be nobody else there to care for them if they got injured badly. Another risky behavior that is being demonstrated in this picture is that they are not wearing a helmet, and knee or elbow pads. Something else in this picture that is dangerous is the stuff at the bottom of the skate park and if they fall they could land on that and have an even worst injury.
There are four people that are jumping out of a plane. Dangerous behaviors for skydiving would be health risks, if they diving without a professional, and mechanical or technical risks. They are being safe by wearing parachutes and going in a group. Are they a part of the army? What type of plane are they jumping out of? There seems to be a big city under them, what city would that be? Or are they just jumping for fun.
In this picture there is a lady who is tanning in a tanning bed. Her private areas are covered by white material and her eyes by protective eyewear. The tanning bed isn't closed, so she wouldn't be exposed to as many UV rays. Is this an advertisement or is she waiting for a consultant? Either way, artificial tanning is never good for your health. At first, the physical results may satisfy your desires but if you actually knew what was happening to your body you would think twice before doing it.
