View each of the four pictures for your group and write a one-paragraph narrative describing the risky behavior displayed in the picture. Do not simply divide up the pictures. You need to collaborate. This means, discuss and formulate your narrative together. Follow the "See, Think, Wonder" format modeled in class. Post each of your narratives here, labeling your post with "Group 5, and your class period, and each member's last name". If you fail to do this, your group will not get credit.

ReplyDeleteSky diving can be a fun but risky activity. We noticed that 3 people had decided to take a risk and have fun free falling from a commercial or military aircraft. This displayes dangerous activity because the risk of the parachute working but it seems that they are experienced because they don't have to be attached to another person.

ReplyDeleteAt first glance, 5 children reading books does not look like a risky behavior. From the way they are dressed we have decided that this picture was probably taken in the Middle East. In the Middle East, girls are not allowed to go to school. By this unspoken rule, what this picture is displaying is illegal and very dangerous. The consequences of being caught could have devastating affects.

ReplyDeleteA young girl taking a ride on an alligator in the 1920s is not a safe task. Consider that the alligator could get scared or startled and break free of the harness that holds the alligator steady. Doreen does have supervision of a man in a suit that appears to be watching her. The alligator could easily break free of the harness and attack the girl and anyone in sight. Therefore this picture represents a very risky activity.

ReplyDeleteWhile fighting a war in a foreign country, it is dangerous to pray out in the open because of contrasting religious beliefs. We can see that thirteen marines are praying in a circle with their attention completely focused on their current prayer. Although we do not know what country they are in we can tell from the environment around them that it looks like a battle front will occur. This is dangerous because snipers or other gunmen could be waiting for an oppurtunity to strike; this would be a prime opportunity for them.

ReplyDeleteIn the first picture we see a girl riding an alligator with a rope around its mouth keeping it shut. There is an unidentified man standing in the background. It also looks like they are in a tropical place like Florida. The little girl is riding the alligator on a paved road. We thought that the girl in the first picture looks fairly calm as if she does this every day, the man looks like a responsible figure due to his placement in the picture, and he looks as if he were supervising. We wondered why she is riding an alligator. Is it wild or tame? If it is tame, how did they tame it? Did the man put the girl up to riding the alligator or did she chose to do it? How old is she? Does she know the man? If so, how?
In the second picture we saw that there were four people, wearing parachutes jumping out of a plane. They're over a cityscape with lots of buildings and are wearing a lot of gear. The plane looks as if it was built specifically for skydiving. We thought it might be a military operation because it looks like they are jumping out quickly, and they're wearing apparel that resembles camouflage. Also, they don’t seem organized so they might be in a hurry. It does not look like commercial skydiving because they're going individually and are jumping out of the back of the plane. We wondered why they are jumping out of a plane. Is it a military related function? Where are they jumping? Why do they have to sky dive? Did they make it to the ground safely? Were there any injuries? Where was their landing target?
In the third picture we see five children that are unidentified. Four of the children are wearing chadrs, the shawl that covers a person’s entire body including the head. There were also bags containing books, they might have been donated. It looks like the kids are reading the books. We think the children are girls and it also looks like they are in the Middle East, so this is dangerous behavior because in certain countries girls are not allowed to have an education. The room that the children are in looks shabby. There are walls that appear to be cement so there is a little protection from the outside, however not as much protection as necessary. We wonder where the kids got the books and if they were donated. Why was this picture taken? Was it taken for propaganda purposes? Where are these children living, and how old are they? Can they read? If they can, where did they learn?
In the fourth picture there is a group of people that look like soldiers sitting in a circle with their arms around each other. They are all wearing brown camouflage and appear to be in a partially enclosed area. They appear to me praying or mourning over the loss of somebody. The ground is made up of gravel, and it looks like they are in a camp of sorts. Some of the people have guns strapped to their backs. Also, some people appear to be wearing bullet proof vests. In addition to their clothing, they are carrying personal items such as watches, glasses, and bags. We think that these people are soldiers, and they are in a Middle Eastern territory. We also think they are all men. We wonder if they are in a war zone, if they were sent for protection purposes or military practice. Why are they in a large group? Are they mourning over someone or praying? How did they get into this situation? What happened? If they are praying, are they all of the same religion? Are they all friends or all strangers? Do they want to be there or at home?
Group 5 Period 2B Kile, Alavaro, Revier, Tuller, Grimsted, Nelson, and Stinger. A young girl is pictured sitting on the back of an alligator. The little girl appears to be around the age of four or five. The alligator’s jaws are bound by a rope to serve as a muzzle to protect the girl from a violent attack. A man in a suit can be seen standing in the background, apparently supervising the girl as she rides the alligator. Considering the fact that Florida is the home of many types of alligators and palm trees, the setting of the picture is most likely Florida. The girl does not appear to be in any immediate danger because she looks as if she knows what she’s doing. Does the man in the background pose any threat to the girl and/or the alligator? Is the alligator trained or domesticated?
ReplyDeleteGroup 5 Period 2B Kile, Alvaro, Revier, Tuller, Grimsted, Nelson, Stinger.Three men are pictured jumping out of either a military cargo or transport aircraft above a large city. They are wearing manual deploying parachutes that are usually used while skydiving. Judging by the jumpsuits they are wearing and the likelihood of the aircraft being military, one can safely assume that they are airborne qualified paratroopers or professional skydivers. There are several elements to skydiving that make the activity a potentially dangerous activity. Some of these include, the parachutes failing to deploy, the collision with other flying aircraft, and the paratroopers missing the designated drop zone. Will the men be able to safely make it to the ground? Have they properly packed their parachutes so they will deploy?
Group 5 Period 2B Kile, Alvaro, Revier, Tuller, Grimsted, Nelson, Stinger. There are five young Muslim girls learning to read and write, attempting to create a future for their nation that includes women. In some parts of the Muslim based countries, we know that reading and writing is prohibited for girls. If those young woman live in a small community or some part of the countries that would get them injured then they are performing a very dangerous action. We wonder if they are in a country that is controlled by traditions that forbid women’s education and if there would be any consequences if they were caught doing so.
Group 5 Period 2B Kile, Alvaro, Revier, Tuller, Grimsted, Nelson, Stinger. Soldiers huddled together, possibly praying for good luck in the conflict that is to come. The most dangerous activity documented in this picture is most likely simply that of being a soldier. Being a soldier is one of the most hazardous professions in the world in any culture because of the possibility of severe injury or death. Questions that this picture raised includes: what are these soldiers doing in the picture; are they praying before battle or mourning a fallen comrade; where are the soldiers; what country do they come from; and are they in any immediate danger?
Group 5 Period 4B Fournier, McMurray, Brower, Morales, Mina, and Doran. There is a little girl in a dress sitting on the back of an alligator. She is holding the reins of a muzzle which is wrapped around the alligator's snout. It looks like they are walking on a dirt or sand trail next to grass with sprouting palm trees. A label at the bottom of the picture states that the picture was taken in the 1920's, and that the little girl is named Doreen, and is riding an alligator, and not a crocodile. This is probably a foolish thing to do, and this could be very dangerous, as the alligator could do an assortment of things that could harm Doreen, by rolling, biting, or simply having her fall off, many of us are also wondering why a little girl is on the back of an alligator in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThere are five little girls that appear to be folding some kind of linen. It looks like they may be hiding some books behind and in the linens. The little girls appear to be unhappy and scared. They also appear to be nervous. These girls may be in a nation where they are not allowed to be educated because of their gender, and because of this, bad things could happen to them, ranging in all kinds of punishments, as it is unknown as to which country these girls are in and what kind of rules they may have involving education.
There are four people skydiving out of what appears to be a plane above a populated city. The people look like they may be a part of the military. They have what looks like parachutes on their backs, because you can see straps. This could be dangerous, because the parachutes might not work, it could be a military mission, and that they might be parachuting in to what might be a populated city. Where are they parachuting into? It the area dangerous?
There are about thirteen American soldiers in a circle and it looks like they are praying, and could be about to leave on a mission due to the fact that many of them are carrying weapons and are dressed in their uniforms. These soldiers also appear to be in an area that is dry and hot, meaning they are most likely in the Middle East. A problem could occur in this due to the fact that religion and government branches do not always mix in the best of ways. This could be risky due to the controversies that could be created from this action.
