See, Think, Wonder Group 1, 4A, 1B, 2B, 4B

View each of the four pictures for your group and write a one-paragraph narrative describing the risky behavior displayed in the picture. Do not simply divide up the pictures. You need to collaborate. This means, discuss and formulate your narrative together. Follow the "See, Think, Wonder" format modeled in class. Post each of your narratives here, labeling your post with "Group 1, and your class period, and each member's last name". If you fail to do this, your group will not get credit.

Upon first glance, one notices that an individual is falling from what looks like a very elevated platform. Upon this person ankles there are a type of cuffs attached to the harness on the hips and the platform. They appear to be above a densely populated area; the below area looks like a resort in a warmer climate. In an area like this there are lots of fun activities to do, like bungee jumping. However bungee jumping isn't the safest of all activities, due to the chance of equipment failure resulting in death.

There is an adult male falling off of the edge of a tower with a harness and a scared expression on his face. He appears to be bungee-jumping. There is no net or other safety measure being taken below him. It’s possible he is performing for an audience as there is a large number of people below him. This is a potentially risky behavior because there are a plethora of things that could go wrong. For example, the bungee cord could snap, the cord could be too long, or the harness may not be secure enough. Any of these scenarios could prove fatal for the man.

There are many dangers associated with social media. Now a days, the increasing accessibility of your personal information has made it much easier for people to locate vital things and parts of your personal life. Many people put too much of their personal information on social media websites, making it available for everyone to see. Some dangers of doing this include: allowing people to know where you live, where you might be at certain times, or allowing people to know of your disabilities and making it so they may take advantage of them. This could lead to people stalking you, cyberbullying, or the possibility of being abducted or even killed.

Taking a leap can be a dangerous thing. In today’s society moving out of your comfort zone can be a scary and potentially risky activity. Doing anything that is not in our normal routine can be hard to accomplish, with the possibility of failing, or in this picture, falling. This fish is signifying a leap out of what it knows to try and have a chance at accomplishing something that may be better and give it more opportunity to live. There are a few potential dangers with taking a leap like this, such as the possibility of failing and never again living in either of the bowls. There is also a possibility of reaching the top and having it not be what was expected. In this case, for example, there could be a change in water temperature that could put the fish into a shock. Overall taking a leap in hopes of accomplishing something great can be a very dangerous thing.

There is a man attempting to eat fire. There are people gathered around him, which leads us to believe that he is performing for an audience. There is no indication of whether or not he knows how to safely eat fire. The people around him are in very close proximity with him. Eating fire could lead to throat and mouth burns, death, or the burning of the people around him.

    1. In the first picture we see a man who appears to have just jumped off of some sort of platform. He appears to be bungee jumping and he looks very frightened. He is wearing a harness that should keep him in place, but the activity still seems dangerous because of the distance he is falling from. Also, he is wearing no protective gear and if his harness were to fail he would most likely die upon impact. The area the he is falling towards seems to have a tropical climate. There are multiple palm trees on the ground and it looks very sunny and hot. We are curious why he is attempting this activity because he looks very scared. We are also wondering if there are paramedics nearby in case his safety equipment does not protect him fully. Does he know the risk that he is taking?

2.In picture two, we see a group of nine social media icons. Some of them are Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. These appear to be application icons. We think these thing can be dangerous because social media can destroy a person’s life. These sites can destroy a person’s life by depriving them of secrecy and by showing the world any embarrassing posts that could hinder a person in a job interview. When on a social media site, others can see everything that you post and can see when you are gone on vacations and it could even help burglars to spot a house that would be unprotected. On these sites, you can make new “friends” who are not who they say they are. This could be dangerous if you wanted to meet up with this person because you really don’t know who they are or what their intentions are. Is there any way to make social media safer? Is there any way to make social media more private?

3.In the third picture we see, a man in suspenders with his mouth open, holding a stick that partially lit on fire. The man is holding the lit end up to his mouth. There is a woman and child in the background, the child seems to be looking in the man’s direction. When we looked at the picture, our initial thought was that the man was swallowing fire, but then, at second glance, we noticed that he might actually be eating something (corn dog). We think that it might be a safety hazard the people around him, or himself. Our thoughts about the child were such in that the child may be mesmerized by the flaming corndog. Why is attempting to swallow fire, did he lose a bet? Is he a professional fire-eater? Will it damage his throat? What is his motive behind swallowing this flaming mystery object?

4.In this picture you see an average sized gold fish jumping from a small fish bowl into a larger fish bowl. From this picture there is no way to tell if the fish actually made it into the larger bowl, all we can tell is that is the fish was about half way between the small bowl and the large bowl. Since there is no else around we can presume that the fish was attempting to switch bowls on his own, so we wonder why would he attempt to do such a thing? Supposing that he did not make into the larger bowl, he would be in the dangerous position of being a fish-out-of-water; assuming that no one was around to save him he would most likely die. So knowing he was facing the possibility of death, we wonder was it really that important for the fish to be in the larger bowl?

The picture of various social networking apps shows potentially dangerous behaviour because whatever you put on the internet, can’t ever be taken off. Also, the information people decide to share publicly on these sites can be seen by anyone. Sharing information with people you don’t know is always potentially unsafe. People can post anything about themselves, and they might regret it later. Users of these sites need to be careful because someone could use it against them.

In the picture of the person bungee jumping there are a lot of people, trees, and buildings around where the person is bungee jumping. Its really perilous because the person’s harness could break and they could hit the ground or anything below them. This person looks really terrified to be dropping so far down. Even though bungee jumping can be fun, it can be dangerous without the proper safety precautions.

The next image is about a man eating fire in front of a small child and a woman. This is a dicey practice because fire is hot and it can burn you. Also, there are many variables that could cause this to go wrong. There is always the possibility that the stunt can fail and the person performing it can be truly injured, whether it be related to fire or not. Additionally the child and woman can be injured if the stunt isn’t containable correctly, as well as anyone else in the crowd, if there is a crowd other than the two people by the stunt performer, and also the property around.

In the final scenario a fish is jumping from a small bowl to a larger bowl. This could be hazardous behavior because the fish could miss the bowl and fall to the floor. This is dangerous for the fish because it would not be able to survive out of water. It also does not seem very possible for a fish to jump out of a bowl that small. It wouldn’t be safe to attempt this because you wouldn’t know the outcome until after you tried it, and that may be too late.

All the icons shown in this photo belong to a social media. Social media networking sites pose a threat to an individual’s privacy because someone could hack into your account and access all your personal data. They could steal your identity and effectively ruin your life. Social media also involves cyber bullying, which could cause the deaths of teens and younger people everywhere. Despite these risks, there are controls available to protect your information as much as possible, but they do not always succeed. Identities and personal information are stolen every day and used against the people they came from. Also, the Internet does not contain all true information and some people believe all that they read, filling their head with false facts that is then spread through other people.

The foolhardy behavior here is extremely evident. The man focus is a man eating or swallowing fire. Behind the man there is a young child, perhaps a toddler, closely observing the spectacle in front of him. He appears to be shocked about the act going on in front of him. This behavior is a natural reaction to the dangerous activity being performed. Swallowing or eating fire is one of the most risky deeds that can be performed by a human. The chances of death are high, because of the chance of complete incineration or severe burns that would wound his throat and render him incapable of speech. Should this man prove to be inexperience and an accident occur the people around him, for which he is performing for, are in immediate danger of burns too.

Risks are sometimes worth taking and sometimes not worth taking. This fish symbolizes this by doing the ill-thought out action of jumping out of his small bowl in favor of a much larger bowl. This fish could hit the side of the bowl and fall back into his smaller home or not land back in the small container and asphyxiate from the lack of oxygen. If he does make it he has a new home that is significantly larger than his last. The symbolism is that he is taking risks, as we do. If our chance that we believe is worth taking ultimately fails then we are in jeopardy of ending up worse than where we were before or in the same place. If we prevail through this perilous decision than we are rewarded immensely.
