See, Think, Wonder Group 4, 4A, 1B, 2B, 4B

View each of the four pictures for your group and write a one-paragraph narrative describing the risky behavior displayed in the picture. Do not simply divide up the pictures. You need to collaborate. This means, discuss and formulate your narrative together. Follow the "See, Think, Wonder" format modeled in class. Post each of your narratives here, labeling your post with "Group 4, and your class period, and each member's last name". If you fail to do this, your group will not get credit.

As we viewed this picture the first thing we noticed was that a boy had his head stuck in the back of a chair. There were four adults around him including what looks like a teacher, a nurse, a janitor, and one other man. The male who looks like he’s the janitor is holding a hand saw and is trying to cut the chair. This could be very dangerous because the saw is close to the boy’s neck, and none of the adults assisting the boy seem to be trained on how to use a saw the correct way, but it could be possible. This is also being done in the classroom, rather than in a room with medical equipment. If the adult using the saw makes a mistake and harms the boy, the boy may need medical help, which wouldn't be as effective, since he would still be in the chair.

Rock climbing is a very adventurous activity, but it can be very risky. There are many things that could go wrong. If any of the equipment malfunctions, then the rock climber could fall to his or her death. A gruesome, bloody death. In the specific picture that we looked at, it doesn’t seem that the rock climber is using very much equipment, and also seems to be climbing almost completely horizontally. It also doesn’t seem that he has a partner to assist him if anything goes wrong, but there could be a partner off-screen.

Clown fish are amazing creatures, and have gained much popularity, due to the Pixar movie Finding Nemo. The picture depicts two clown fish around a sea anemone. Clown fish have the ability to live in sea anemones, which emit small electric shocks when touched. This is useful so that a clown fish may hide in it’s sea anemone, and it will be protected from predators. This could be seen as risky, because sea anemones are poisonous, but the clown fish is in no danger, due to it’s immunity to the sea anemone’s poison. It is currently unknown how the clown fish are immune to the sea anemone’s poison, but some theories include that the clown fish’s mucus coating is sugar based, rather than protein based, and the sea anemone fails to recognize it as living, and does not fire it’s poison at it.

Little children always enjoy the company of cute little animals, but this little girl, as depicted in the picture, seems to have an affinity to a rhinoceros! The girl, who seems to be about 8 years old due to her clothing and size, is riding a rhino, while a woman, who is presumably her mother, is watching and smiling. This is very risky behavior, because rhinos have not been known to be very docile creatures. If something angers the rhino, it could go on a rampage, and could easily kill anything in it’s path, including the little girl on it’s back.

In the picture there is a boy with his head stuck in a school chair. He is surrounded by four adults all trying to attempt to remove his head. How did he get his head stuck in there in the first place? One of the male adults who looks like a janitor has a saw in his hand and is trying to use it to remove the boy’s head from the chair. If the child stuck his head through the chair, he obviously did not think of the consequences because he has a look of fear on his face. Judging by the picture you can’t really tell if he is going to be okay. Are any of the adults certified to even perform a procedure like that? There are no paramedics or emergency care people there helping what looks like the principal, teacher, janitor and nurse. Why are they still in a classroom? It doesn’t seem like the safest thing for them to not be at a hospital performing the procedure. Is the kid going to be okay, or will he be injured in the process?

In the picture, there is a coral reef with two adult clown fish. Do these fish have any eggs that they also need to protect? They're surrounded by anemone and other oceanic plants. Do these fish and anemone have a “bond?” The clown fish and the anemone form a dynamic duo/"friendship" together in most situations. The fish can resist the sting of the anemone due to a chemical on their fins. The anemone protects them from predators and other dangers of the ocean. Are the fish in any immediate danger now? If so, what is causing this danger?

In the picture there is a woman who looks like a mother figure next to a rhino and a little girl on top, riding the rhino. Both are wearing dresses that look older in style. What time period are they in? They seem to be in a pretty dry area. Could they possibly be in Africa? Both the woman and child seem to be excited judging by their expressions, and the rhino seems pretty calm about it. Is there a possibility that the rhino may become frustrated? What would happen if the rhino did take off? If this happens the kid will most likely fall off of the rhino, and if she doesn't the rhino will take off with her on its back. The woman is not likely to be able to catch up to the rhino and the child would be lost. Is the rhino tame or is it wild? Are there safety precautions in place in case the rhino takes off? The child doesn’t appear to be wearing a helmet and this would cause a serious problem if the situation took a turn for the worse.

In this picture there was a rock climber. He seems to be pretty far up in the air. His face can’t really be seen because it’s pressed up against the rock face so we don't have an exact idea of what he is feeling or what his thoughts are on the situation. He seems to be CLINGING from the rock. Is he panicked or just really intense about the activity he is participating in? He seems to have climbed very high up on the rock (no chance of stopping now), and is almost hanging completely off of it, but thankfully he has a harness. The major problem in this photo is that he doesn't seem to have anyone with him. Also, He doesn't have anyone climbing on the rock next to him. Is there anyone with him at all? There may be someone waiting for him at the bottom, but if there is not there will be no one to take care of him in case of an emergency? It is a LONG way down. Is there any safe place for him to rest? What does he plan on doing if there is an emergency? We can only hope that he has made the proper preparations for an activity like this.

A young male has his head stuck in a chair. Around him we see four adults struggling to get him out. They are using tools and attempting to remove him from the chair. This is dangerous because a wrong move and they could damage the boy. We think that the kid seems panicked and wondering why he put his head in the chair in the first place. He does not seem extremely bright regarding his illogical decision to stick his head into the hole of a chair. Why did he put his head in the chair in the first place? What are the adults in the image thinking? What was the outcome? Did they get it off his head? Did he survive this experience? If so, was he injured?

A person is rock climbing on the underside of an extended rock. He is gripping onto the jagged rock feature in a very precarious position. Despite his gear and helmet, he doesn’t look very safe. There is no visible spotter, and only one thin safety rope. We do not see anyone else with him, and this is hazardous because if he were to fall or be injured, there may not be anyone to help him. How far has he come? How much further does he have left? How high is he? How far away is emergency help? How experienced is he? He may not see this as dangerous as someone else because he could be an experienced rock climber.

Two clownfish are swimming in sea anemones, which are possibly their home containing their eggs. The sea anemone inflicts very painful sting on most fish, excluding the clown fish. The sting makes its hazardous for any other fish possibly resulting in death of other aquatic life. It is harmful potentially for the eggs if other fish are able to enter the sea anemone and take their eggs. Are the clown fishes eggs inside of the sea anemone? Are there other predators to eat the eggs? Will those fish survive without potential life consequences from the anemone? The ocean can be a treacherous place, and you never know what could happen. These fish could be threatened by pollution, changes in current, and many other unexpected dangers.

A young girl is riding on top of a rhinoceros. A woman is standing beside the rhino, accompanying the girl. All of them appear calm and peaceful. There is no visible fence to control where the rhino goes. A rhino is a wild animal, and it is possible that something small could dramatically change this peaceful scene. There is nothing holding the girl on the rhino or keeping her from falling off. This picture looks like it was taken around the 1920’s. It seems that was taken in a rather remote location and there may not be medical access nearby should something go awry. Is the woman related to the child? Where are they? Do they have a vehicle nearby?

We observed a young boy with his head stuck through the back of a chair. He is surrounded by first responders who are using a saw to cut the chair off. The boy was likely being reckless, and possibly trying to impress a girl. It looks like he is at school, judging from the type of chair. How long has he been there? Also, was he dared or was he bored? What, if any, was his punishment? Did he have to pay for the chair? This is hazardous conduct because he could have suffocated or there might not have been anyone who could help him.

It is a photograph of a man free-climbing a rock face without any safety equipment. He is almost upside down. He appears to be very high in the air, climbing up. Because of the level expertise requiring to successfully scaling this cliff, we can infer that he has done this before. Why isn’t he wearing any safety gear? Is he alone? For what amount of time has he been on the rock face? Perilous behavior is evident in this picture because if he falls he would likely die and he has nothing to keep him from falling.

There are two Clown fish swimming out of their protective shelter, leaving them susceptible to predators. They are still near their inhabited anemone, but are leaving it. We can infer that the Clown fish are leaving to find food. There could be camouflaged predators lying in wait. Are they coming or going? Are they swimming fast? What type of predators would be around? This dicey behavior put their lives in jeopardy.

This is a woman standing next to a girl on a rhinoceros that is not restrained in any way. The women are calm and happy, and the animal seems benevolent. This picture looks older, as if taken in the fifties. Whose idea was this? Is the rhino tamed? Is that a mother and daughter? Rhinos are very aggressive creatures and could very easily throw the girl and trample the woman which is why this is dangerous.
